Lately, we have been getting quite a few questions about our APIs. As a way to clarify things, here is a brief description of each API that we offer.

UMapper Developer API
The Developer API can be used to connect your UMapper account to a custom application via XML-RPC. To see this API in action, check out the UMapper plugin for WordPress. In addition, a new Drupal module is currently in the works and should go live within the next few weeks. We are also considering extending our API to additional frameworks like Joomla.

UMapper White Label API
With the UMapper private label API, you can have the complete UMapper functionality on your website, social network or content management system with your branding on the map embed. The editor, as well as the map display, can be fully customized with this option.

UMap API
The secret sauce behind UMapper is our UMap API for Flash and Flex. What makes UMap unique is its ability to work with any map data and service provider at any level. In addition, it is one of the best mapping APIs out there. If you are Flash/Flex developer, definitely take a look at UMap. UMap is available in three versions:

  • Free for non-commercial use
  • Commercial - contact for pricing
  • White Label - contact for pricing

If you would like to learn more about any of these APIs or have any questions, shoot us an email.

We have already featured David’s map this month, but he’s created another great one that is too good to pass up. The map below was plotted using a GPS device and is entered in the Nokia GPS Art Contest. In David’s own words:

This heart was made using a GPS tracking program and lots of preparation. I discovered the app could be paused for strategic straight line drawing. The actual route was 39,5km (24,5mi). This is for a contest Nokia are using to promote their new N79 Active phone, which tracks your exercise workouts with GPS while recording heart rate data. Grand prize is a N79 and runner-ups get a Polar BT heart rate monitor compatible with many Nokia devices.

Good luck!

This week we hit a very important milestone - 10K public UMapper maps. Looks like Czech Republic Map is the lucky ten thousandth.

Thanks for using UMapper to create all those maps! We have some cool new feature releases coming up in the next few weeks so keep an eye on this blog (and twitter) for announcements.

At ~9:00PM Mountain Time we started experiencing issues with one of our servers. As a result, some of Umapper services were unavailable for approximately three hours. The issue has been completely resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for your patience.
