There is no better way to start the year than with a big release! We are excited to announce the new Map Analytics module that takes the map widget tracking to the next level. We understand the importance of accurate tracking data, and we work hard to bring it to you.

Currently we track three core parameters - Map Hits, Map Views and Embed URL’s. Each parameter includes a time dimension, making it easy to see how data has changed over a period of time.

Map Hits
A Map Hit are recorded every time a map is loaded. This metric is meant to show the total number of non-unique views a map has had. Map Hits are only recorded through the viewer, your activity in the editor is not recorded here.

Map Views
A Map View is recorded whenever users move or change the zoom level of a map. For example, if you zoom two levels down, two Map Views will be recorded. Map Views are a good measure of a map’s interactivity - higher the number, the better your map is.

Embed URL’s
If you want to know where your map is embedded and how many hits are generated on each website, then you need to look at this parameter. This data is extremely helpful in helping you determine the most effective distribution destinations for each map.

Map Analytics are available for all of our maps. You can access the data from your account dashboard or from every page on which a map is mentioned (click on the number of views). To see it in action check out stats for The 30 Greatest Battles of WW II map.
