The Fire Management Policy Review Team was put together on September 28, 1988 to review current policy and to recommend changes. They found that decision-making needed to be tightened, and planning needed to be better spelled out in order to reduce the risk of burns near structures—both for prescribed burns and wildfires. They also found that the public needed to be more involved in fire management plans, and that policies nationwide needed to be more uniform.
